While searching for the perfect vinyl flooring, you’ve probably come across the terms SPC and WPC. Both options are known for being 100% waterproof. SPC vinyl is a newer product with a signature rigid core that is virtually indestructible. WPC vinyl has been the gold standard for vinyl flooring and features a waterproof core that’s comfortable as well as functional. This flooring is hugely popular amongst homeowners looking for the look of traditional hardwood without the maintenance. It is also one of the most popular flooring options for commercial spaces and businesses. It’s beautiful and low maintenance. Plus, it’s easy to install, making it a dream come true for DIYers.

When to choose the flooring for home?

Depending on where you plan to lay your new flooring, selecting the correct construction can make a big difference. Here are some common situations where it makes sense to choose one type of flooring over the other:

Making living space on a second level, over an unheated area, such as a basement? Go with WPC, which will better insulate your rooms.  Choose a WPC with an attached pad for added warmth, such as Palmetto Road Tidewater Collection.

Building a home gym? Choose SPC so that you don’t have to worry about dropping weights.  Finishing a sun room? SPC will fare better in spaces that are not heated or cooled, like three-season rooms. Impact and Inspire waterproof SPC from Palmetto Road are great options.

Creating a workshop? If you’ll be standing for a long time, WPC will be more comfortable. If you’re worried about dropped tools creating dents, SPC will give you better peace of mind.

Renovating a multi-level home? WPC will help keep sound spillage from floor to floor to a minimum.  Again, there are many options with an attached pad for added sound absorption

In the end, there’s no way to say that either SPC or WPC flooring is better than the other. It all depends on where you plan to install it, and what you want out of your flooring.

Looking for something durable and more comfortable underfoot? Then WPC is right for you. Maybe you need flooring that can hold up to high traffic in a commercial space. If that’s the case, you need SPC vinyl.
